All About
Dental Fillings
Most people have seen the “old-school” amalgam or silver-colored metal dental fillings. These can easily be noticed when a person speaks, chews, laughs, or smiles. Today, most patients prefer tooth-colored fillings that closely match the shade of the natural tooth. These modern fillings have all the strength of the traditional metals but are much more aesthetically pleasing!
We Offer Tooth-Colored, Mercury-Free Dental Fillings
Dental Fillings are commonly used to replace an area where a cavity has begun to form. They serve a very important purpose because if cavities are left untreated, they can become so large that the tooth may crack or completely fall out. Of course, the best form of prevention is to get regular dental exams and cleanings. However, cavities still can happen - even to patients who take excellent care of their teeth.
When we identify a cavity, most patients will opt to receive a local anesthetic to numb the affected tooth. We can then remove all decay and create a space where the filling can be effectively placed. Once applied, the gel-like filling is gradually hardened thru the use of our curing light. The result is that your cavity is resolved, and your filled tooth looks exactly like the rest of your healthy teeth!
Schedule TodayWhy Are Tooth-Colored, Mercury-Free Fillings Better?
In the past, some metallic fillings were made with small amounts of mercury. While that amount of mercury was unlikely to cause health problems, very diligent patients still preferred to avoid them due to health concerns. Patients also did not like that their fillings were very visible to everyone. By simply talking, laughing, chewing, or smiling, the entire world would know that they had gotten a dental filling. This is no longer the case, as tooth-colored dental fillings closely match all of your other healthy pearly whites. They also offer all the strength of the old-school fillings. Due to these advantages, we are proud to over tooth-colored, mercury-free fillings. Inarguably, they are considered highly superior to their older counterparts.
Appointment RequestKey Benefits Of Dental Fillings
Since a cavity is tooth decay, the decay will only worsen until it is removed and the cavity is properly filled. Many patients cause themselves a lot of unnecessary pain when they delay this process. The result can be devastating, as cavities can grow to be so large that they ruin the tooth – even making it fall out. This not only creates a much more expensive problem, but a more painful and time-consuming issue for the patient.
