At their most basic level, lasers are concentrated beams of light that have revolutionized various medical settings. In dentistry, these lasers are highly-effective at treating and cleaning teeth and gums with expert precision. This technology is a breakthrough in oral and periodontal surgery, allowing us to precisely control cuts and minimize recovery time.
Benefits of Laser Dental Treatments
Since dental lasers automatically cauterize any tissue they cut, this results in significantly less bleeding and swelling in surgeries. In some cases, the cauterization may even eliminate the need for stitches altogether, making recovery much easier for our patients. Additionally, laser treatments are often quicker and more comfortable than traditional methods.
When Is Laser Dentistry Used?
At the Dental Arts Center, we use our innovative laser in numerous ways to benefit our patient. Common examples include diagnosing dental issues in their early stages all the way to performing even the most challenging of oral surgeries. More specifically, we may choose to shine a laser light in a patient's mouth during regular exams to get a clear look at all areas that are more difficult to spot. This enables the early detection of plaque buildup, which is key to maintaining good oral health. Another example is when we get rid of decay by wiping it out quickly and precisely as soon as it is revealed by the laser. Prepping teeth for fillings and devices, fusing dental materials together, solidifying bonding material, and treating gum disease are all other examples of how we have utilized laser dentistry in our practice.
